Trevor Hicks

Trevor was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He began his career in Highland Dancing at the age of 12, qualifying as a teacher at 18 when he opened his own dancing studio. Following a move to Johannesburg, he studied Highland with Jean Voss under whose guidance he won all the championships of the time throughout South Africa, including the South African title in 1974.

His competitive career saw him compete not only in South Africa but also in Scotland in 1976 where he was third overall in the British Championship in Edinburgh and fourth overall at the World Championships at Cowal.

Trevor is Fellow, Examiner and Life Member of the SDTA as well as an SOBHD adjudicator.
His experience in the field of dance extends to Ballet, Theatre, Classical Mime & Dance Drama as well as Irish dancing. In all these fields he has accumulated many awards and accolades. Apart from heading his own studios, he has also examined, adjudicated, taught workshops and conducted lectures in England, Canada, the USA, throughout South Africa and Rhodesia. A past Chairman of the Official Board of Highland Dancing (SA), Trevor now lives in London.
