In Loving Memory of Rose Fletcher

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Rose Fletcher, founder of the Rose Fletcher Pipe Band and Highland Dancers. She died on Sunday 27th March aged 92.

Her funeral will be held on 8th April on St Stephen’s Church, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Manchester.

Elizabeth Jolly would like to congratulate her pupil/daughter 17 year old Jennifer Jamieson on gaining places for the musical theatre courses at Italia Conti, Guildford School of Acting, Bird College and Laine Theatre Arts.

Jennifer was a competitive highland dancer when she was young but preferred musical theatre and has attended the Dance School of Scotland Musical Theatre Course in Knightswood School for the past 4 years.

Jennifer was a child dancer in the Pavilion Theatre panto’s choreographed by Sheridan Nicol, Jennifer also attended Sheridan’s Jazz Art UK courses.

Jennifer chose to go to Laine Theatre Arts. She was invited to attend their scholarship auditions and gained one of their limited scholarships awards. She commenced her 3 year training in September and loves every minute of it!

Everyone at the dance school wishes her every success.

Got to dance 2011

Lauren Hair

After much hard work Lauren Hair(16) of Le Dance Studio has successfully made it to the live semi-finals of ‘Got to Dance 2011′.

She will appear in the live programme on Sky 1 on Sunday 13th February 2011 at 6pm and will perform a contemporary routine.

Lauren is enjoying a fantastic support from all her friends, family and fellow dancers at Le Dance Studio and would appreciate any support you and your pupils can also give.

It would be fantastic if you could show support for Lauren by voting for her on Sunday to help her achieve her goal of making it to the Live Finals at the end of February.

Scottish Festival at Disneyland Paris

Attention all highland teachers!

Mr Billy Forsyth informed the SOBHD he is in discussions with Disneyland Paris to hold a Scottish Festival of Dance in October 2011.
This is an opportunity for dance teachers to showcase their school at a one-off special event next year.
Dancers will have the honour of marching in the pre-parade through Disneyland Paris with all their favourite Disney characters.
Details have yet to be finalised and further information will be posted to the website when available.

Highland Branch lecture

The Highland Branch are holding a Lecture at the SDTA Studios on 13th Feb 2011.

Topics will include

  • Sailors Hornpipe and Irish Jig (covering SDTA syllabus)
  • Developing core strength for Highland Dancing technique
  • Broadswords
  • SA2 Scottish National exam syllabus

Ballet and Theatre Day of Dance

On the 6th February 2011 we will be hosting a Ballet and Theatre Day of Dance.
A fantastic opportunity for your pupils to work with Top Professionals from the London West End Stage!

Note from SOBHD technical Committee

Regarding the Dress Code for females in the Scottish National Section.

It should be noted the tartan national skirt should be Gathered or Folded to waistband (do not iron down). The tartan skirt is not a circular skirt.

Highland Day of Dance Cancelled

We have had to cancel the day of dance on the 4th December due to the further snow forecast.
We will rearrange it for a date in the New Year but due to the safety of the dancers travelling from all over Scotland we thought it best to postpone it.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
